SOUTHEAST REGIONAL 

WAVE REGATTA

Notice of Race

(Feb 29, 2024)

 

 

1. RULES:

1.1 This regatta will be governed by current version of The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2Formula Wave Class Rules apply.

1.2 The following prescription of US Sailing will not apply: RRS 63.2.

1.3 Appendix V2 will be in effect.

 

2. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

3. COMMUNICATIONS WITH COMPETITORS

3.1Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located at the JIYC Sailing Shed

and online at ( https://theclubspot.com/regatta/lnEc54AHO1 ).

 

4. ELIGIBILITY and ENTRY:

4.1 The regatta is open to all Waves.

4.2 FWC Membership is required – available at registration  $25.

4.3Each boat must have hull numbers visible on the outside of each hull.

4.4Online registration (only) is available on Clubspot.

5. REGISTRATION and ENTRY FEES:

 

5.1FWC Member Registration​​$ 100

Late Registration (After April 5)​​$ 120

Youth Registration (under 21)​​$  75

5.2Registration includes Sandwich Lunch (Fri-Sat), Saturday Dinner and Sunday Keg Beer.

7. VENUE and COURSES:

All courses will be in Charleston Harbor. The courses to be sailed will be drop mark courses.

 

8. PENALTY SYSTEM:

8.1Rule V2 of Appendix V will be elaborated in the sailing instructions. including where to go for necessary forms to be completed and to whom it should be submitted.

8.2Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turn Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty (including one tack and one gybe).

 

9. SCORING:

9.1An unlimited number of races are scheduled on all courses.

9.2One race completed will constitute a regatta.

9.3The regatta will be scored with the low point system as described in RRS, Appendix A as amended to read that if more than 5 races are scored, each boat will exclude her worst score.

 

 

11. PRIZES:

​​The number of trophies awarded will be determined by the number of boats entering each class, as described in the Sailing Instructions.

 

12. RISK STATEMENT:

RRS 3 states: ‘The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone.’ By participating in this event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that sailing is a potentially dangerous activity with inherent risks. These risks include strong winds and rough seas, sudden changes in weather, failure of equipment, boat handling errors, poor seamanship by other boats, loss of balance on an unstable platform and fatigue resulting in increased risk of injury. Inherent in the sport of sailing is the risk of permanent,

catastrophic injury or death by drowning, trauma, hypothermia, or othercauses. James Island Yacht Club will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury, or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

 

13.  INSURANCE

Each participating boat shall have current third-party liability insurance with a minimum coverage not less than $100,000 USD. Proof of this insurance must be presented prior to competing.
