Registration and Launching Details:

Welcome to the 2019 Thistle Nationals in Sandpoint Idaho. We look forward to sailing with you and are excited to host boats from across the USA. Although this is the official registration page a lot of regatta details can also be found at www.thistlenationals2019.com and on the attached Notice of Race. Information on accommodations - including $10 a night tent camping and other accommodations- can be found on the web site.

Sandpoint is a beautiful lakefront resort town.  It is a special place to sail with lush green mountains, a big clear mountain lake and a charming historic downtown.  The 2019 Nationals Regatta will be based out of a marina at the Sandpoint City Beach Park. Please make a note of the following logistics and plan accordingly:

Registration and Measurement will be at the Bonner County Fairgrounds – about 2.5 miles to the NW as the crow flies.  This is the same location for the camping and trailer storage. We will have plenty of room to spread out, share a beer, wash boats, measure sails, etc.

Once you complete registration and measurement at the Fairgrounds we will send you to the City Beach Park to meet up with our launching crew – this will go quickly and you will be assigned a beach front dry sail space for the week for your boat.  Car parking will be tight at the City Beach park and our volunteers will be close by to assist.

All boats will be dry sailed from their beach spots.  The exception to this would be for teams staying at the Seasons Condominiums.  If this is you, check to see that your condo has a slip in their marina.  If your condo does not have a slip, that’s ok, you can dry sail at the regatta beach site. There is more info on this later in the registration process.

Boats wanting to haul out on Friday will be assigned a time thru a lottery system so we can maintain a smooth traffic flow. We know this will be a hassle but there is no way to have everyone bring their trailers down at once. 

Registration Costs

Registration includes:

• Three tickets to the Friday Night Banquet

• Free beer each day after racing and other non-alcoholic refreshments

• Access to the day use dock

• Assigned Beach Boat slip

• Trailer storage

There will be three Registration periods:

•  Early registration period is from February 3 until midnight March 15th. In addition to the above included benefits boats that register early will receive:

  • Preferred Beach Boat Dry Sail Slip (first 20 registered boats)

  • Two tickets for the "Haul Out" raffle on to determine haul out order on Friday after the last race.

  • Cost: $405 plus a $45 Thistle Class Trophy fee for a total of $450.

•  Regular registration period is from March 16th until midnight July 1st:

  • Boat Beach Dry Sail spot based on registration order

  • One ticket to the "Haul out" Lottery. 

  • Cost: $430 plus a $45 Thistle Class Trophy fee for a total of $475.

• Late Registration period is from July 2 until midnight July 7:

  • Cost: $430 plus a $45 Thistle Class Trophy fee and a $100 late keg fee for a total of $575.

You can order your t-shirts and other regatta gear here. Online ordering allows us to offer a much larger selection of shirts, jackets, and even duffel bags. You can also customize the gear for your crew with your boat name and number, if you want. Please note - there will be limited quantities of t-shirt during the regatta so please order ahead of time.
