Parents and Sailors,
Welcome! The CLSA junior program is delighted to host a Traveler Series.
As many are new to the venue, we would like to share a few things:
- Lunch: TDB on the water or the clubhouse.
- Breakfast provided!
- Our club will be open all day Friday and Friday night and you are welcome to come early, launch your boat and get tiller time on our water. Safety boats will be available. Expect a giant slip-n-slide, bonfire and potluck dinner around 600 pm. Bring your own dinner if you arrive later or try one of the local favorite restaurants.
- The main club has full-size kitchen with a walk-in refrigerator. There is no food or beverage service.
- Sailors to-be can enjoy our shaded playground makes while sailors can practice their trapeze, hiking and tacking skills.
- Sadly, although we love dogs, pets are not allowed on our grounds.
Launching and sailing:
IMPORTANT: Cowan Lake is governed by the state and the is a 10 HP limit of our lake. While our club race and safely boats are exempt that is not the case for any other coach boat. If you want to be on the water, we recommend renting a pontoon or jon boat from the Taylor’s South Shore Marina. Kayaks, canoes, and SUP’s and/or binoculars and chairs are also work.
While expanded from a few years ago, the launch requires a drop-and-go plan. Parking in the launch area is prohibited. We recommend launching 420’s from the public launch at the State Park Marina but they can be launched on a dolly from the club plastic dock. A five-minute walking trail connects the club, marina and junior launch area.
Housing Options:
- The club has spacious grounds for tent camping and electrical hookups for campers and RV’s. Showers are located near the camping areas.
- Hotels and restaurants are available in near-by Wilmington.
- Beachwood Acres is two miles with has renal cabins and RV’s.
- The Cowan Lake State Park has a campground and few rental cabins on the lake.
