Post reagatta Summary from ASh Daff

The 2024 state titles found us back at the Rye Yacht Club once again. After not Getting a single course race even started due to the weather in 2023, we returned to Rye to give the weather and the club another chance to show us their stuff. Once again the club welcomed us with open arms and a professional. well organised crew.

Our entry list was down a little on last year's event, The World's last year created a lot of interest in the LT fleet and last year's states were a great lead up to this event. We also had a drop in the crew around the 18 to 22 YOA mark. While this is always expected due to School commitments, work and other interests it is still disappointing and while there is no quick fix we should be mindful of this situation and informally ask some of this group what we are competing with?
We once again had a decent turn out from Adults new to the sport but not the younger ones even though we have had reasonable numbers for the last few years in the learn to windsurf group. This requires some more thought. Is it equipment, time, social groups, school, other sport commitments etc that stop the flow through when there is obvious interest to begin with?
School programs?  Social days? more training? confidence inspiration? Every other sport has the same challenges! Weather dependent sports like windsurfing have more than their share.
Day one
We all got on the water and racing started in light challenging conditions with a little tidal action thrown in.
After two back to back races we returned to the beach for lunch and a bit of rehydration.
Back on the water and one more race done and dusted. With changing wind direction and strength the next was recalled just as the change hit with force, with a direction change of around 120 degrees and winds passing the 30 knot mark it was everyone back to the beach, no more racing today.
Time to get the BBQ on and the drinks flowing. The social night was well attended and enjoyed by all. No one complained about my cooking !
Day Two
No wind until noon. Then enough to think we might get a race in. We all got out there but the only racing to be had was the pumping race back to the beach.
After a quick tally of the results and a short presentation we all departed hopefully ready to do it all again in another year or so?
