Notice of Race

Date:  Saturday Nov 2, 2024

Location: Sail Newport and Newport Harbor

Registration: Online - Enter U18 discount code if you are under 18 and MILES if you are travelling from out of state.

Schedule:  Skipper’s meeting at 11:00 am.  First race noon (12:00), no start after 4:00 pm.

Festivities: Join us after sailing at the IYAC in Newport for pizza and refreshments and awards.

Fee: $25 - minus discounts for under 18 or out of state

Eligibility: Open to registered sailors in Laser, Laser Radial, and Laser 4.7 rigs. All boats will start together.

Safety & Responsibility:  Sailors are required to wear adequate protective gear & PFD’s. Temps can be cold and wetsuits or drysuits, proper hats, boots, and gloves, are a necessity. Each participant must gauge their own ability to participate. While there are power boats on the water, we all prefer that they run races and not have to rescue unprepared sailors.  Sailors agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sail Newport, Fleet 413 and any and all race committee, employees and members of these organizations.

Starts: Starts will be 3-minute dinghy starts, audible signals from the Ollie Box: 3, 2, 1-30, 1, 30, 20, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.

Courses: Windward-Leeward, Triangle, Harry Anderson, M, or combinations of.

Sail Numbers: Sailors are required to have UNIQUE sail numbers.

Protests: 360 turns are required of boats that foul.  If you foul and don’t do your penalty turn you have cheated everyone else and yourself. Remember “If in winning the race you have lost the respect of your fellow competitors then you have not won at all.” – Paul Elvstrom

Scoring: 6 or 7 races - no throw-outs.
