Sachem's Head Junior Regatta, 2024

We look forward to welcoming juniors in the Opti RWB, Opti Green, Laser Radial, 420 and Feva fleets to the 2024 Junior Regatta on July 12! 

This is a friendly event hosted from our clubhouse on our beautiful stretch on the Sound. We offer good fun and good competition; Green Fleet racers are welcome and will have their own course.

Reception and awards to follow racing; awards for the top three in each fleet; all green fleet racers will receive an award.

Please note our schedule below; due to low tide conditions in the morning, we will plan to race in the afternoon. Low tide is just after 10:00 AM, at which point launching boats at our launch site at the back of Sachem's Head Harbor will be difficult. Please plan accordingly, and make sure all sailors are wearing proper footwear if launching from the back of the harbor. *Local shellfish are not friendly to bare feet*.  (See below for more information on traveling to SHYC by car)

10:00-12:15: Check-in & Launching
12:15: Skippers’ Meeting (Opti RBW, FEVA, and 420)
12:30: Skippers’ Meeting (Opti Green)
12:30: Harbor Start
13:00: First Gun for for Opti RBW, FEVA, 420, Laser Radial
13:15: First Gun for Opti Green Fleet
15:30: No race will start after 15:30
16:30: Awards

INFORMATION FOR TRAVELING TO SHYC BY CAR

*Launch Location. As those of you have been to our event before know, our launch site is in a different location than our clubhouse. Please plan to travel to the launch site rather than the clubhouse and see tide information below. The link will take you directly to the launch site, but if you want an address to punch in to your phone, you may use 600 Colonial Road, Guilford CT, 06437, which is just beyond the landing. Shane Waldern from Sachem’s Head Yacht Club will be at the location assisting and orchestrating. His number is 203-228-4755

*Tide and Schedule: Low tide is around 10:10 AM on Friday. Optis and Lasers will be able to go relatively soon after low, but 420s and Fevas launched by trailer will want to wait until 11:45 or 12:00. Please plan your travel and arrival time accordingly. We will delay first gun for any affected fleets as needed should anyone be held up in the back of the harbor. Please reach out to me directly if you want to deliver and launch boats this evening. There will be no issue with pulling boats after racing.

*Footwear: MAKE SURE YOUR SAILORS ARE WEARING APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR FOR LAUNCHING AND PULLING. LOCAL OYSTERS ARE NOT KIND TO BARE FEET.    

*Getting to the clubhouse on foot. The clubhouse is not far from the launch site. To get, there, proceed to the dead end of Colonial Road, cross the footbridge, and take a right to Chimney Corner Circle (see map below) 

*Lunch/Food: We will have a post-racing reception at the clubhouse with pizza and snacks, but lunch will not be provided. Please plan accordingly.

*On the Water Communications: coach boats and race committees will be using channel 69 on the VHF

*Awards and Reception: We are preceding a social event at the SHYC Clubhouse, so we will move right into our reception and awards after sailing. Please proceed directly to the club docks (rather than launch site) after the final race.
