Comet North American Championship

Comets are returning to Surf City YC! The SCYC is pleased to be hosting the Comet North American Championship on June 15-16. Although the Comet Class is not currently active at SCYC, we have a long history with the class. The Comet was one of the original racing classes at SCYC and remained active until the mid-1990s. We have hosted the Junior Championship twice, the Internationals three times, and more recently, the North Americans in 2007 and 2019. Past Life Members Betts & Dick Warren were longtime managers of the class office and the highlight of Dick's long sailing career was winning the Internationals in 1978. Their sons Rich and Steve were active Comet sailors as well, together winning the Juniors in 1969. Rich, with wife Sue, went on to win two International and one North American Championship. Grandsons Mike and Greg gave it a go at the 2019 NAs finishing third. Club Members Andy Temme and Chris Cox won the Juniors in 1987.

Registration will be online only through this Clubspot site. There is a late fee for registrations received after June 9th.

Please save this date for a great weekend of sailing on Barnegat Bay. Limited housing may be available with club members but sailors are encouraged to explore housing options such as VRBO sooner rather than later. June is wedding season on LBI and accomodations are in demand.
