UPDATE 1 – 12 October 2020

THE 2020 RVYC KEELBOAT TROPHY SERIES NOTIFICATION

Covid-19 & Other Impacts

  1. UPDATE
    • The 2020 RVYC Keelboat Trophy Series was to consist of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club’s five distance keelboat trophy races as follows:
      • The William Head Race 15th March 2020
      • The Lipton Cup Race 5th April 2020
      • The Thermopylae Trophy Race 13th September 2020
      • The Whitehouse Trophy Race 18th October 2020, and
      • The Virtue Cup Race 1st November 2020
    • Unfortunately the William Head Race had to be postponed due to weather conditions on the day of the race, 15 March 2020. Shortly thereafter Covid-19 restrictions were put in place halting all racing. Competitive racing was not permitted to return to RVYC until the end of September 2020. As a result of the competition restriction, the William Head Race, the Lipton Cup Race and the Thermopylae Trophy Race have been cancelled for 2020. Therefore, with the cancellation of three of the five races in the series, the RVYC Keelboat Trophy Series itself is cancelled for 2020. The Challenge Cup will not be awarded in 2020.
    • The remaining two RVYC keelboat trophy races for 2020, the Whitehouse Trophy Race and the Virtue Cup Race will take place as scheduled unless restrictions to competition are again imposed as a result of Provincial Government orders. Additionally the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, government orders, the complete disruption of the majority of the 2020 keelboat racing year, and general confusion requires some clarification and direction for the two remaining trophies races as follows:
      • A boat’s crew size is limited to a maximum of ten (10) persons including the skippers regardless of the size of the boat.
      • Skippers must record crew member names and have a means of contacting each crew member if Covid-19 concerns arise.
      • Skippers are to ensure that contact is minimized among crew and take Covid-19 precautions in accordance with ViaSPORT Return to Sport Guidelines See: https://www.viasport.ca/return-sport
      • Skippers’ Meetings and post race awards events will not take place in order to limit social contact.
      • Registration. Unfortunately changes to the Clubspot application necessitate registering for the individual races rather than as a series.
      • Ratings. For the two remaining races the definition of a valid rating includes a non-current PHRF certificate, i.e. a certificate issued prior to 2020 provided no changes have been made to the boat since obtaining the certificate.
